It is now quite common to see women who are older to have children later in their lives.As more women are getting better educated and with their increasing academic qualifications and their passion to pursue their careers has made these women postpone having children to a later date. Because of their pre occupation with their work these women do not feel the need to have children early in life.In some cases, women who have already reared a family may want to have another child with a new partner. This happens in cases where there is remarriage.A hundred years ago, the average life expectancy of a woman was 50, any woman who was 35 was considered old. But down the years as health care has made life better more women are feeling a need to start a family much later in life say when they are in their mid thirties. This being the case as more women are opting for mother hood later in life the biological disadvantages of being an older parent are balanced out by the social advantages.The women who are in their mid thirties feel more settled and ready to have a child at that period of their life. These women have the satisfaction of having had a successful career, and more leisure activities by the time they are 35. This helps these women to be better able to cope with the emotional and financial aspects of having a baby at that stage in their lives. If there are no medical complications of pregnancy, than the risks of childbirth in older women is no greater than in younger women. Women may have experienced problems while conceiving or could have had a number of miscarriages. This could be one reason why some women have delayed mother hood. Sometimes financial worries and lack of emotional support by immediate family members could also delay motherhood or may even deny motherhood.The advantages of older women having children are they are much fitter and healthier than their earlier counterparts. Also their life styles have improved greatly since the time of their grandmothers. An older woman has more confidence about making choices and there is plenty of evidence to show that older healthy women are capable of having babies.
