Many posit that in addition to the addictive effects of each individual drug (though whether or not marijuana actually possesses addictive qualities is a whole debate unto itself), there is also an oral addiction that comes with smoking in general. This would explain why many who quit smoking often face new challenges, such as a seemingly sudden and unwarranted weight gain.
