Yoga and Frozen Shoulder




Yoga is the ancient system of treating the body of India. In ancient India the Indian ascetics or sadhus were able to thwart any disease and remain healthy only because of yoga and meditations.  It was possible for them to have really inhuman capacity to withstand different types of natural attacks. Yoga is the gift of the Indian culture to the world. Today yoga is being practiced all over the world for its life giving and nurturing value and many individuals are reaping the benefits of doing yoga. Yoga has a very impressive biomechanics in dealing the body, and hence it is truly very useful in the treatment of frozen shoulder. In the treatment of yoga no drugs are used for curing the frozen shoulder and there is no need of surgery, with its unique biomechanical approach to the human body yoga can restore the stiff and tightened tissues of the shoulder joint. In any disorder of bones the bones are twisted and for this reason one has to be very gentle while doing yoga for frozen shoulder. Yoga should be performed in such a way as if to seem that one is untying the tangled maze of bones. Yoga in the treatment of frozen shoulder certainly helps than drugs.

Yoga exercises for frozen shoulder

Yoga soothes the frozen shoulder and then restores it to its normal position. First one to do simple exercises like the gentle small tugging movements to free up the tissues and then one can proceed to more difficult postures of the yoga. The exercises help to tone the whole body and not only frozen shoulders.

1. Shoulder circle is the exercise in which the patient has to make circles by rotating the shoulder, while the part of the arm from elbow has to fold inside so that the palms of the hand can touch the shoulder. This exercise helps to free up the stiff muscles.
2. Arm circles exercise also helps to loosen the muscles. The arm circle exercise relaxes the whole body and not only the shoulders.

The standing exercises in Yoga

The standing exercises in yoga are those that are done while standing erect on the ground and performing asanas or exercises to relieve the frozen shoulder. A physical therapist can help the patient to workout the exercises by gradually doing the different yoga exercises.
