Hemorrhoid ligation

The ligation may be briefly described as an outpatient treatment for second-degree internal hemorrhoids wit the help of a rubber band. The history of ligation is quiet old and is linked with the writing of the Hippocrates as they mentioned about a similar process in which they used a thread to tie off hemorrhoids. The process mainly involves the application of a small rubber band to the base of the hemorrhoid, in order to stop the blood supply to the hemorrhoidal mass. Thus the hemorrhoid is expected to shrink and die within a period of 2 to 7 days and come out along with the band to fall off during normal bowel movements. The process has become increasingly popular in the recent times with success rate in between 60 to 80%, as it involves less pain than surgical treatments of hemorrhoids, as well as a shorter recovery period.

Although the basic steps of prevention and treatment for the disease is the inclusion of high fiber in the diet and increase the fluid intake it is also suggested to individuals that they should decrease the amounts of time spent sitting and to sit on a pressure-reducing cushions. The swelling may occur if there is excessive amount of pressure on the veins, which prevents the return, flow of the blood to the heart. Commonly, hemorrhoids are of two types the external and the internal. As different as their reason of occurrences, their symptoms are also quite contrast to each other. For example the internal types are generally painless but may bleed sometimes which makes it very difficult for the sufferers to feel the very presence of the hemorrhoid within the body.
Hemroids which are also commonly known as piles are inflammation or swelling of the veins in the rectum and the anus. It occurs due to abnormal enlargement of the veins. It is an irreversible process and unfortunately once developed it won?t cease naturally but worsen if proper care and medical treatment is not taken. Hemroids can be basically categorized into two types viz, the external and the internal hemroids. External types mostly occur outside the anal verge and are extremely painful and may be accompanied by irritation, swelling, itching and bleeding. The internal hemroids are mostly prevalent inside the rectum and are not usually painful. Thus most people who have this type of hemroid are not aware but sometimes the internal hemroids may bleed when irritated. The prevalence of hemorrhoids is very common as it tends to increase with age and sometimes may also occur through inheritance.
